Interview:
Where
do you get your writing inspiration from?
A lot of the time inspiration comes from
two places – a dream I have or from my shower. I know that sounds crazy, but
many scenes from the Mystic Wolves have been discovered in my bathroom. I don’t
know if it’s because I’m playing my music really loud or the water is relaxing,
but I’ve been known to quickly get out and outline a story. I think it’s magic!
Did
you have to do any research for your books? If so what?
I did some research when I wrote Enchanted
Hearts. I wanted to make sure I didn’t have Aithne eating the wrong kinds of
food and I read up on Midsummer Night rituals. Anytime I’m not sure on
something, I log onto Google and see what I can find out. Even for The Mystic
Wolves series I looked up the Fates. I love learning new things.
What
are you working on now?
Right now I’m working on the third
installment of the Mystic Wolves, Testing Fate. This is such a big book for me
because a lot happens and the ending is HUGE. A lot of anticipation has been
building for certain events and I’m excited to see how everyone reacts …
especially to the end *winks* I love being in the head of Darcy, Mason, and
Devlin. I’m impatient for its release!
What
is the hardest part of writing for you?
Honestly, the hardest part is keeping
focused and not letting real life things interfere with my imagination.
Nothing’s harder than trying to write from an emotional standpoint when you’re
stressed or your mind is distracted. It makes finding the right words and
connecting with the story/characters a challenge. That’s why I have certain
things I do to tune everything out and tap in to the creative process. Once I’m
there, the world could be ending and I’m oblivious! Haha
What
can readers expect next?
My next release is Testing Fate, the highly
anticipated third book in the Mystic Wolves series. Once that’s done, I’ll try and take a break. I say try because
without fail characters will step forward and start chatting away. I do have a rough
idea of my release schedule next year – Enchanted Frost (the sequel to
Enchanted Hearts), Broken Trust, and the fourth Mystic Wolves book. There’s a
few other storylines floating about so we’ll see.
What
question have you always wanted to be asked in an interview and how would you
answer that question?
Hahaha. I don’t know.
If
you were writing a book about your life, what would the title be?
I’m not sure about titles, but I know some
taglines. One would be the familiar “What doesn’t kill you makes you stronger.”
It’s hard to see anything positive from situations that test us and make us
feel like we’re travelling through Hell. We’re challenged. We’re stretched. We
stumble and rise again. Whatever we face, every experience makes us stronger
and a better person–even when we think it will break us.
If I was to write a book about this phase
of my life, it would be titled “It’s All About The Swoon.” Reading, writing, or
just plain living each day … that’s what it’s about … finding those things that
make us happy J
Who
is your favorite author?
That is SUPER hard, you know that right? I
don’t have just one. It all depends on what genre I’m reading, what mood I’m
in. I love Sherrilyn Kenyon, JR Ward, Kelly Armstrong, Richelle Mead, Ilona
Andrews, Chloe Neil *sighs* We could be here forever. Lacey Weatherford, Raine
Miller, Stephanie Perkins, Karen Moning … maybe I should take a snap shot of my
bookcases. I love all things romance and urban fantasy.
What
is your guilty pleasure?
Chocolate. The Vampire Diaries. The Legend
of the Seeker series. Road trips. Highschool football. Popcorn and French
fries.
Highest
point of your writing career?
There’s been a few. Holding my first book
in my hand will always stick in my mind as a pivotal moment. To see tangible
proof of my hard work felt so good and I feel the same way each time I release
a new story. I also loved my first ever book signing at RT Convention in
Chicago. A woman I’d never spoken to before showed me her program. She’d
circled my name and said “I came to see you.” Meeting so many people, receiving
amazing messages about how much my stories are enjoyed … every day’s a high
point!
Advice
for aspiring authors?
Never give up. Be yourself. Don’t be afraid
to make connections with readers. I think that’s the advice I’ve held on to and
valued the most. There’s so much you can focus on—writing, publishing,
marketing etc. and it’s easy to get overwhelmed. Just focus on one thing at a
time and most of all … HAVE FUN!
Last
song that was stuck in your head?
The last song I listened to on iTunes was
Just A Fool by Christina Aguilera and Blake Shelton. I’m addicted to The Voice
and love downloading the performances I like. I have the song on repeat and
laugh every time I come to a certain spot. I have no idea what the lyrics are
BUT I swear Blake sings “I’m just an oompaloopa!” Yeah … I like to substitute
my own words hahaha.
