There are truths out there that she must learn: who her father really was, and what it means to have his blood flowing through her veins; that a person’s soul is their only real currency, and there are people who would do anything to take hers; that loving someone can hurt so much more than hating them; but, most importantly, when your future is predestined, there is little you can do to change it.

Farley Hope is prophesied.

Her coming has been awaited for hundreds of years.

She is destined to end the tyranny of the Soul Reavers.

To do so she must die.

 My Review:
This is the first book in The Hope Series and the first book I’ve read by Frankie Rose.  I was pleasantly surprised.  I was quickly drawn in by the books description and found the book to be even better.  The characters really make this book.  They are easy to relate to and I found the book very hard to put down.  This is a great example of a strong female lead in a wonderful book.  It is action packed and has a little over everything packed in one binding.  I love the way Frankie Rose writes.  Her words just flow together and make for easier reading.  You can’t help but get sucked right into the story.  I look forward to reading more from Frankie Rose and more of The Hope Series.  I give the book 4.5 out of 5 stars. 

Author Interview:

Where do you get your writing inspiration from?

I find that a hard question to answer, mostly because I really didn’t want to take inspiration from anything else when I wrote Sovereign Hope. I reflected for a long time on how I could make the book unique and the characters totally their own people, so when I’m asked what gave me the spark of inspiration for a lot of the elements in Sovereign Hope, I’m usually quite stumped! I love Neil Gaiman’s dark, atmospheric writing so I guess he inspired me in some ways.

Did you have to do any research for your books? If so what?

I’ve never been to Los Angeles, and so I had to do a lot of research for that aspect of the book. I did research about all kinds of different things for Sovereign Hope; how to fight, how to shoot; car chases; car engines (which was really interesting!); about migraines and how they affect people. It was really awesome looking into all these things I might never have bothered to learn about otherwise. Researching for Eternal Hope has been so much fun as well- I’ve learned a whole new bunch of skill sets just from that. I’m not going to give any of that away, though!

What are you working on now?

I’ve been working on a new YA dystopian novel in between finishing Eternal Hope and starting Lost Hope. I’m really excited about this book; I’ve had a blast creating the characters and getting to know them. I haven’t been lucky enough to have been struck down with the perfect title yet, but I know it’s going to happen.

Other than that, I’ve been setting out brief summary plots for Lost Hope, which is VERY exciting. And I’ve been procrastinating a little, making book trailers. That’s my new hobby!

What is the hardest part of writing for you?

Forcing myself to sit down and set out each and every chapter in great detail. I’m so impatient. Once I have the idea in my head, all I want to do is get started on the book right away. It’s a real struggle for me to keep myself in check and get the outlines done, otherwise it would just never happen and I’d end up with a rambling book, because I hadn’t stuck to my plans.

What can readers expect next?

Eternal Hope is out next, and in the second book we learn a lot more about Kayden. We meet some really exciting new characters as well, and we discover what happened to some of the characters from Sovereign Hope as well. Daniel and Farley spend time getting to know one another now that they’re not bound by the Quorum, and we find out why Daniel and Kayden have been at each other’s throats for so many years. There’s lots more action and a few twists and turns, and, most importantly, there’s a lot more of the connection between Farley and Daniel!

The Reavers still pose a threat to Farley, but the danger comes in the form of a new, unexpected form that leaves everybody confused.

What question have you always wanted to be asked in an interview and how would you answer that question?

Hmmm… well, that’s really tough to answer. I always thought that the most important question would never get asked, but I was totally blown away when it was asked right out of the gate in one of my first interviews. The question, of course, was “What is your favourite colour of M & M,” to which my answer was yellow, because yellow is most definitely the best.

Beyond that, I guess I wouldn’t have minded being asked about whether I was ever going to write adult books, and if I was going to, what sort of books they would be.  I definitely do want to write adult books; I’ve reads so many amazing contemporary lit. fiction  books, and I have always aspired to writing something that will impact people beyond simply entertaining them. I suppose that is the big goal for the future, but attempting that will be years and years away. I don’t feel ready to even contemplate doing something like that just yet. Besides, I’m in love with Young Adult fiction at the moment. It’s so much fun to write, and the readers are just the most wonderful people of all ages and walks of life. Their passion for this genre is really amazing, and I’ve loved creating this series for them.

If you were writing a book about your life, what would the title be? 

It’d be, ‘I Bet You Weren’t Expecting That!’ Ha ha!

Who is your favorite author?

Today, my favourite author is Michael Chabon, the author of The Yiddish Policemen’s Union. I have no idea who it’ll be tomorrow, though.
