Em Petrova lives in backwoods Pennsylvania, where she raises
four kids and a Labradoodle puppy named Daisy Hasselhoff and pays too damn much
for utilities. She loves to write gritty characters with lots of heart and is
well-known for scorching, panty-soaking menage a trois stories.
Interview:
1. Where
do you get your writing inspiration from?
The little things provide
inspiration for me. A leaf skittering across a shadow, a glance between
strangers. Music also gets my mental juices flowing.
2. Did
you have to do any research for your books? If so what?
Absolutely. I research occupations
or farming methods, the logging industry and firefighter equipment. My Hollis
Boys series is set in the Old West, so I look up everything from the cost of a
prostitute to how many people died per day while working on the railroad. If
the FBI looked at my search history, I might be in trouble, especially when you
consider the eye candy I Google!
3. What
are you working on now?
A hot new cowboy ménage for
Samhain. It’s gritty and dirty and full of quirks and life. My first Samhain
release Hard Ridin’ is coming February 5, 2012. You can peek at my cover here: http://empetrova.com
4. What
is the hardest part of writing for you?
Self-doubt. Halfway through every
manuscript, I hate it. Want to kill off the characters and revamp the plot.
Then I get to the climax and I know it’s going to be all right.
5. What
can readers expect next?
A flaming ménage in my Firehouse 5
series called CONTROLLED BURN, coming in mid-December from Ellora’s Cave.
Here’s a blurb:
Fire Chief
Pearce Johnson has been struggling with his attraction to fellow team member
and special ops guy Mitch Morelli. In the sauna, the long looks turn into a
steamy self-love encounter. Pearce runs home and tells his wife of fifteen
years all about it—resulting in a five-alarm blaze between them.
Ellie
has always suspected her bisexual husband would crave another relationship with
a man. When he brings Mitch into their fantasies, she encourages Pearce to
explore this newfound sexual link even as she longs for the big Italian
firefighter to visit their bed. But taming two firemen might be tougher than
she thinks.
Mitch
can’t get enough of his rugged chief and Ellie’s femininity. But on the job,
his boss pushes him away and purposely splits them up to avoid working with
him. Wounded by the acts, Mitch is finished trying to see his lover’s point of
view, until one perilous event makes them all wake up and realize love is too
precious to ignore.
6. What
question have you always wanted to be asked in an interview and how would you
answer that question?
Question: If a shirtless cowboy
with low-slung jeans and a Stetson sauntered up to you and asked if you’d come
into the bunkhouse for a nightcap, would you go?
Answer: *drools*
7. If
you were writing a book about your life, what would the title be?
You Forgot the Secret Sauce
8. Who
is your favorite author?
Anne Rice
9. What
is your guilty pleasure?
Wedding shows. I’m a sucker for
them. But I only watch in the wee hours of the night, like a good closet
junkie.
10. Highest
point of your writing career?
Getting my acceptance for Hard
Ridin’ from Samhain. Love you, Christa Desir!
11. Advice
for aspiring authors?
Take the time to learn the craft,
find people who are better than you to help you. And just when you think you’re
ready, don’t hit “send.” Take more time until you can wrap your head around
every aspect of the craft and industry.
12. Last
song that was stuck in your head?
Dirt Road Anthem by Jason Aldean. I
love me some ripped jeans. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Lb9q1ScC4cg
